| At Capital
Cranfield we do not believe that an independent trustee should be detached
from the rest of the trustees or work in isolation. We believe in getting
involved in all issues that affect the scheme; we aim to deliver objective
guidance and to ensure compliance with best practice.
We also believe that a pension scheme must not become disconnected from
the sponsoring business, especially now that pension liabilities form
part of the corporate balance sheet. Our independence helps protect the
interests of the members but we always remain sensitive to the practicalities
of the business world.
At Capital Cranfield, our style is non-confrontational; we prefer to
be practical rather than dogmatic. We remain sensitive to a scheme's chemistry
and culture, which has often been evolving long before our appointment.
